Responsible gaming: 21+, and play only what you can lose
Every game in a casino carries a house edge. Over time, the expected result for players as a group is a loss — that is the business model, and it is not hidden. Gambling can be reasonable paid entertainment for adults who budget for it. It causes serious harm to people who do not. This page is about staying firmly in the first group.
21+ only. Online gambling in the Philippines is restricted to persons aged 21 and over. If you are under 21, nothing on this site is for you, and any account you open will lose its balance at verification. Parents and guardians should consider device-level content filtering if minors share a phone or computer.
The four tools that actually work
Licensed operators are required to provide player-protection tools. They work far better than willpower because they are set in advance, when you are calm.
| Tool | What it does | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit limit | Caps how much you can pay in per day, week or month | Set it on day one — before the first deposit |
| Loss limit | Caps net losses over a period | If you tend to re-deposit after a bad run |
| Session reminder | Pops up after a set playing time | If you lose track of time in the lobby |
| Cool-off | Short break, typically 24 hours to 30 days | After a session that felt wrong |
| Self-exclusion | Blocks the account for months or permanently | When you have decided to stop |
Set limits the day you register, not the day you need them. Increases usually take effect only after a cooling-off delay, while decreases apply immediately — which is exactly the right way round. The account setup steps are in the registration guide, and mobile players should do this at install time per the app guide.
Ten rules that keep gambling recreational
- Decide the peso amount before you log in. Not during, not after.
- Only ever play with surplus money. Never rent, tuition, remittance, emergency fund or borrowed money.
- Never deposit twice in one session. The second deposit is a chase.
- Set a timer. 45 minutes, then stand up regardless of result.
- Never play tired, drunk or upset. Every expensive decision happens in one of those states.
- Withdraw wins instead of re-wagering them. See the withdrawal guide.
- Accept that losses are not owed back to you. The game has no memory.
- Do not believe in systems. Martingale and its relatives hit table limits, not profits.
- Check your real net position monthly from your transaction history — not from memory.
- Talk about it. Secrecy is the single strongest predictor of harm.
These are expanded with peso worked examples in the beginner tips, and the cost-per-hour maths behind rule 1 is on the games page.
Warning signs
These are the standard indicators used by gambling support services internationally. If two or more are familiar, act now rather than later.
- Playing longer or for more money than intended, repeatedly.
- Increasing stakes to recover losses.
- Borrowing, selling possessions, or using money set aside for bills.
- Lying to family about how much you play or lose.
- Feeling restless, anxious or irritable when unable to play.
- Gambling to escape stress, loneliness or low mood.
- Believing a big win will solve a financial problem.
- Neglecting work, study, family or health because of playing.
If you recognise yourself in that list
Today: set a deposit limit to zero or start a cool-off in your account. This week: request self-exclusion and remove saved payment methods from the device. Then: tell one person you trust, and contact a support service. Acting early is far easier than acting late, and nothing about it is unusual — these services exist because this is common.
Where to get help
In the Philippines: PAGCOR, the state gaming regulator, publishes player-protection information and operates responsible-gaming programmes for licensed venues and platforms — start at pagcor.ph. Your barangay health centre or a licensed mental-health professional can also refer you to counselling, and the Department of Health's mental health hotline provides crisis support.
Free, confidential online support:
- Gambling Therapy — free multilingual online support, groups and one-to-one help, available internationally.
- BeGambleAware — self-assessment tools, spending calculators and practical guidance on cutting down.
- Gamblers Anonymous — peer support meetings, including online meetings accessible from the Philippines.
For family and friends: these services also support people affected by someone else's gambling. You do not need the person's permission, and you do not have to wait until they ask for help.
Blocking software
If self-exclusion at one site is not enough, blocking software prevents access to gambling sites across a device or network. Tools such as Gamban, BetBlocker and GamBlock are widely used, and some are free. Combine them with removing saved cards and e-wallet shortcuts — the friction genuinely helps.
Our commitment
We deliberately publish content that reduces spending: we tell readers to decline bonuses with unrealistic wagering in the bonus guide, that scatter bonus rounds are rare by design in the scatter guide, and that nobody makes a living from this. We never target anyone under 21, never promise winnings and never present gambling as a solution to money problems. That policy is set out in full on our about us page and by our editor on the author page.
